Nobile di Montepulciano Wine Tour: discover a territory, a wine, an ancient tradition

On our private Nobile di Montepulciano Wine Tour, we visit 2 or more wineries and the old town of Montepulciano. We also stop in the middle of the vineyards to understand the work of the vignerons and in other scenic spots to take pictures of the valleys and hills dotted with cypress trees.

At the wineries, we will have private tours and tastings led by the owners or experts to understand the peculiarities of this Tuscan wine which is the result of a blend of Sangiovese with other local varieties.

We will start the Montepulciano Wine Tour in the morning around 10 am. Our English speaking driver guide will pick you up directly at your accommodation in a luxury and very comfortable Mercedes Benz vehicle. On board, free water and wi-fi internet connection will always be available.

During the transfer to the first vineyard, your guide will introduce you to the territory, its history, and its winemaking tradition.

At the winery, you will have a private tour where you will meet the owner or one of  the staff, a wine expert who will guide you through the vineyards, facilities, and aging cellar. At the end of the tour, we have our own reserved area for the tasting, usually with a view.

Here you will taste 3-7 wines (it also depends on the size of the estate) guided by the owner or an expert like a sommelier who will tell the story of these wines, their characteristics, and the best pairings. If necessary, your guide will also provide a brief introduction to the correct way to taste wines and the Italian system of denominations.

During the morning, we will stop in the Old Town of Montepulciano and stroll along the streets and squares of this typical Renaissance village. Here, you could take nice pictures of the Piazza Grande, the main square featured in some famous movies, or the breathtaking views of the countryside around the village from one of the many viewpoints.

In town, you can also walk inside some of ancient cellars of the noble palaces used in the past for the winemaking and aging of wine. These are like old temples dug in the tufa rock where temperature and humidity is consistent throughout the year.

If there is time, we could also tour San Biagio’s Sanctuary, a typical 16th century Tuscan church with a central plan just outside the gate of Montepulciano.

If you are more interested in wine, or if you already visited the village of Montepulciano, we can plan to visit an extra winery in the latter part of the morning.

Lunch will be reserved for us in a cozy little restaurant in town where we will be served a traditional Tuscan menu. Usually we have an appetizer, a pasta course, and dessert. From the wine list, you could choose among some of the best labels and vintages of the area.

In the afternoon, we will visit another great Nobile di Montepulciano producer where we will have the possibility to visit the olive grove and taste a white wine and extra virgin olive oil in addition to the red wine.

During the day, you will have the possibility to buy wine directly at the estates at the most reasonable price. We also provide the service of shipping the bottles directly to your home. We will take care of your wine by storing it in a refrigerated depository until you are back at home to receive it.

At the end of the day, we will transfer you back to your accommodation around 5 pm.
