The first and only one-week trekking route completely designed and guided by local experts that connects all the slopes of Montalcino, home of Brunello, in easy daily stages. We will walk together through the most famous vineyards of Montalcino, stopping by the winemakers and other producers of local gastronomic specialties to learn how their products are made.

We will lodge by a boutique hotel in the historic center of Montalcino and then, walking, we will connect day by day all the Brunello Terroir from North to South without forgetting any panoramic view, any kind of soil and any interesting path. But the territory is not rich in wine alone: for this reason we will also take you to discover dairies, apiaries, gardens and other gasronomic pearls of the area that will complete the sense of a unique terroir in the world.

Montalcino Trekking Map

Day 1
Meeting in Florence and transfer to Montalcino by private minivan
Check-in the hotel, orientative guided walking tour of the Old Town of Montalcino, welcome dinner reserved at a walking distance from the hotel.

Day 2
11km, 400m+ (7 mi, 1.200 ft+)
Let’s walk the North hillside of Montalcino and reach a dairy farm where the famous Pecorino cheese is produced. Tour of the stables and the production facilities guided by the owner. Tasting lunch on site with their products farm to table.
Follow up walking in the North hillside of Montalcino to reach one of the most interesting wineries of Brunello in this area. Tour the property with the owner and join the guided tasting of 3-7 wines.
Reservation for dinner by a local Osteria in Montalcino.

Day 3
13 km, 300 m+ (8 mi, 900 ft+)
Start of foot the famous route to Sant’Antimno Abbey crossing from North to South the Brunello terroir. Enjoy the basket lunch by Locanda Demetra under the centenary olive trees around the Abbey, free visit of the church, shopping the pharmacy of the monks, then follow up hiking until a winery for a tasting of Brunello wines. Transfer back to the village by private minivan

Day 4
15 km, 500 m+ (10 mi, 1.600 ft+)
Today we start again on foot directly from the hotel for the 3-hour guided hike among the vineyards and the wild forest of Montalcino terroir. We walk through small plots of vines, olive grooves and forest on the Eastern Hillside of Brunello Terroir
We reach a small farm for lunch with delicacies prepared by the family. Later we visit the cellar and tour the vineyard and we follow up hiking along dirt roads to an apiary farm where we visit the beehives and the production facilities. Here we also taste many different kind of honey and learn more about the charming life of bees, so important for all the agriculture. Finally we close the walking ring around Montalcino.

Day 5
15 km, 400 m+ (10 mi, 1.200 ft+)
Transfer to Castelnuovo dell’Abate by private minivan and start of the daily hike in the Southern part of the Terroir Brunello along the famous Sesta Road where many famous wineries are located. We walk along the white roads stopping by the vineyards to see the work of the vine growers and we go down until the Ombrone river, the Southern border of Montalcino that delimits also the the Denomination Brunello di Montalcino. Her we are guests by an incredible organic farm where, in addition to wine, many other products are farmed; among these also tobacco. After the tasting lunch on site we follow up climbing up until the small village of Sant’Angelo in Colle where we can take scenic photos on the sunset. Transfer back to the Montalcino by private minivan

Day 6
6 km, 200 m+ (3 mi, 600 ft+)
On our last day together we walk until the Locanda Demetra, a small family run and organic farm. Here we join the cooking experience with the family starting with a visit to the permaculture garden, the chicken coop and the olive trees. After the 3-hopur cooking class we enjoy the lunch together under the pergola facing the Val d’Orcia landscape. After a little of free time to relax, in the late afternoon we are guests by a wine shop, the Enoteca, in town where we are guided in a tasting of Brunello wines coming from different hillsides to complete what we learned walking on the different slopes of the Brunello Terroir.

Day 7
Check-out and transfer to Florence by private minivan
