Day 1 – Welcome to Italy!
We meet in Venice by the Marco Polo airport and, in 2 hours drive, we transfer to the Alps by a luxury and very comfortable Mercedes Benz minivan. After the check-in by the hotel in Cortina you have free time to enjoy the facilities before the Welcome Dinner by the restaurant of the hotel
Day 2 – Le Tre Cime di Lavaredo
We start hiking the Dolomites from the spectacular group of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (the Three Peaks). From Cortina we drive along the charming road that passes through Passo The Croci and Lake Misurina. The final drive up the toll road until the Rifugio Auronzo is unique because of the incredible views on the peaks around. From here we start our ring hike around the three Peaks. The path is large, easy and flat for the most part of the morning. In this way we can start to get confidence with the Alps and its rarefied and crystalline air.
After the Rifugio Lavaredo where we can eventually stop for a coffee, the path begins to climb up to the Lavaredo Fork from where, finally, we can begin to admire the spectacle of the Three Peaks. From here the path returns flat and simple crossing the scree of Monte Paterno to the Rifugio Locatelli where we will stop for lunch.
This is the best place to admire the spectacle of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and take those pictures you have just seen in the books and feel the vibe of the most scenic mountains in the the world. In the afternoon we will continue our walk towards West around the Group, first reaching a small “malga”, a mountain hut and finally concluding our hiking tour by returning to the parking lot.
In the evening we can enjoy South Tyrolean specialties in the hotel restaurant.
Day 3 – The galleries of WWI
Today our adventure hiking the Alps starts driving under the shade of the Tofane Group along the road that from Cortina climbs up the valley until the Passo Falzarego. From here we will take the path that in 3 hours will take us to the summit of Monte Lagazuoi from where you can admire a wonderful view of the Tofana di Rozes, the Marmolada, the Monte Civetta, the Antelao and many other pearls of the Dolomites …
For lunch we will stop at the popular Rifugio Lagazuoi to rest a little before taking our way back through the belly of the mountain: through the Anticima Tunnels, dug by the Italian Army during the World War I.
For those who are lazy, today there will be the possibility of using the cablecar from the parking lot to the refuge and vice versa.
In the evening we can enjoy a well-deserved dinner at the hotel restaurant.
Day 4 – Lake Braies
This morning we will drive through the Val di Landro and Val Pusteria to reach another small wonderful alpine valley, the Braies Valley, which has become so famous by now due to its incredibly scenic lake: Lake Bries. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe the wonder one feels when admiring its emerald waters with the green woods and the summit of Croda del Beco that are reflected in it. Be prepared for the fascination!
Today we propose a walk that starting from the lake will take us to an isolated mountain hut, away from the masses of tourists who crowd the shores of the lake. We will understand how much value this 3-hour walk will have had only when, at the table in the “malga”, we will taste the cheeses and other products from the field to table of the family that will host us.
The return hike will be all downhill to complete the very famous Lake Braies Tour which, at least once in a lifetime, cannot be missed. We will also take home some of the most spectacular photographs you can take of an alpine lake.
For dinner this evening, a little surprise!
Day 5 – Sellaronda
Today we will change the area by entering the Ladin-speaking Dolomites. After checking out from the hotel we will drive to Val Gardena stopping here and there by beautiful mountain passes and spots to take pictures. At the Fedaia Pass we can admire the Marmolada, the highest mountain in the Dolomites and its glacier. Based on our wishes and the weather, we can decide to walk around the lake or take the cable car up to the Marmolada Terrace at 3.265m to take beautiful photos and admire the incredible panorama all around: we are right in the navel of the Dolomites!
In the mid afternoon we will check-in at the hotel in Ortisei: we will have completed two thirds of the epic Sellaronda, the tour around the Sella Group, theater of cycling, skiing and running races known worldwide.
Free time to enjoy the facilities and then a spectacular dinner by the hotel restaurant.
Day 6 – Piz Boè: let’s touch the sky with your finger!
Val Gardena is the perfect place to explore many mountain groups in the Dolomites. Among these, the Sella Group is certainly one of the most surprising. Today we will drive to Pass Pordoi where the cable car will take us to the heart of the mountain. From the arrival station we will then hike for about 3 hours to reach the Piz Boè at 3.152 meters (10.341 ft) named the easiest 3.000 in the Dolomites. From this peak the sky seems so close to us the we could almost touch it with our fingers. The show of the mountains around us is complete and unique. Take a moment to absorb the wonder: breathe softly, don’t make noise, Mother Nature is talking ….
For lunch we stop nearby at one of our favourite gourmet rifugios in the Dolomites.
In the afternoon we will have some time to enjoy the facilities of the hotel and then dinner together by the hotel restaurant.
Day 7 – Alpe di Siusi
Our last day of hiking in the Dolomites will be a trip to the Alpe di Siusi, the spectacular flowery plateau at an altitude of 2.000 m. From here we walk along the Denti di Terrarossa to the Rifugio Alpe di Tires where we will have lunch with a view of the Sassopiatto and the Catinaccio groups. Our last day of hiking in the Dolomites is a relaxing circular route from soft pastures to rocks and back in the midst of mountain flowers, cows and small mountain huts.
Farewell dinner by the hotel sharing memories of an epic week in the Dolomites.
